We are learning to play the Djembe Drums!

In Year 5, as part of our Music lessons, we are learning to play the Djemebe Drums with a specialist percussion teacher called Mr. Powell. We are learning how to keep a steady rhythm, are looking at the different sounds that the drums make and will be learning some songs!
According to the
Bamana people in Mali, the name of the djembe comes from the saying "Anke djé, anke bé" which translates to "everyone gather together in peace" and defines the drum's purpose.

Take a look at some of our photographs- we have lots of fun! frown
