Welcome to the Sledmere Primary School website
We hope that it will provide you with useful information, give you a flavour of our school and help you to see what makes Sledmere such a special place.
It gives me great pleasure to introduce the children and staff at Sledmere Primary School. We are immensely proud of our school and our children.
Values and vision
At Sledmere, we set high standards for our children and we want them - by the time they reach Year 6 - to be ready for secondary school. Our school values of Strive, Progress, Succeed underpin everything that we do as we believe these are values that will help children through their school years and also throughout their adult life.
Ethos: Be the best you can be
We focus clearly on developing children’s skills and understanding in reading, writing and maths. Children are expected to read widely. Maths is taught every day. Writing is taught using high-quality books, including picture books.
We also pride ourselves on our wider curriculum which includes lots of exciting opportunities to learn both inside and outside the classroom.
The school also benefits from large grounds and lots of space to play and learn.
We expect all our children to achieve and to become the very best that they can be and this vision will drive us as we aim to keep improving our school. Our children have the greatest chance of succeeding if parents and school work together in partnership and we pride ourselves on being a friendly, open and listening school. As a school, we are committed to inclusion. Safeguarding children and ensuring their welfare is a priority for us and we will work with parents to make sure all our children are safe.
We are extremely proud to be one of the four founding academies of the Learning Link Multi Academy Trust. Within the Trust we work closely with Netherbrook Primary School, Kates Hill Community Primary School and Sledmere Primary School. We are committed to our shared aims, values and ethos and believe that we will grow in strength as we combine influence, innovation and collective knowledge. We are working collaboratively for all our children and their families, to shape the future and ensure excellence at all times.
Mr Derek Fance
Head of School
Our mission statement is ‘Be the best you can be!’ and everyone in our school is keen to ensure that all our children are given all the educational opportunities to enable them to reach the maximum of their potential.
As a school we work hard together to achieve and maintain high standards in all that we do. Our team of staff sets and expects a high standard of work and behaviour from each child. We work together to promote a positive attitude to work and learning in our school. Our pupils are encouraged to do their very best in all aspects of school life and we value and encourage good manners, effort and success. We foster a happy, caring, calm yet vibrant atmosphere where children want to learn and are keen to come to school each day. This stimulating climate provides opportunities for each child to grow in self-esteem, develop friendships and succeed as an individual by learning independence and respect for others.
The three elements of partnership between children, parents and school are central to our philosophy and vision for our school. We believe strongly that the education of all children lies in this partnership and that close co-operation between home and school is essential for each child to feel secure, gain confidence and meet with success in their school and later life. There are many opportunities for parents to come in to school, work with their children, see them perform and discuss their progress in learning. We operate an open-door policy, so if you are a parent in our school you are always welcome to come and talk to me or a member of our staff if you have a question or a concern.
We are proud of our school and aim to continue its commitment to excellence. Within the Learning Link MAT (www.learninglinkmat.org), we work with Dudley Wood Primary School, Netherbrook Primary School and Kates Hill Community Primary School. We believe that this collaboration will make a lasting difference to the children staff and communities that we all serve.
We take children from 3 years of age into our Nursery until the children leave at the end of Year 6. Our numbers are rising as the school has been extended, but we offer a very personalised and nurturing environment in which children can aspire to achieve. If you would like to find out more about Sledmere or like your child to come to our school, please ring 01384 818425 and speak to one of friendly office staff or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
We look forward to a long, happy and successful partnership with you and your child in your child’s education.
